What is Shinsunwa?

Connect to the source of the universe. Place your hands on the Qi-Circuit in the e-book, surrender, and simply allow. Let the subtle movements guide your hands, feel the qi — and you will be connected.

Avalokiteshvara 1

The Visualization of Avalokiteshvara’s Spiritual Energy (2023)

Most people, even those who have never set foot inside a Buddhist temple, know the name Avalokiteshvara—known as Gwanse-eum Bosal in Korean.

The ShinsungHwa of Jesus Christ Through Nine Sacred Colors (2019)

My first ShinsungHwa of Jesus Christ was created in 2014 using just two colors. By 2019, I had evolved to working with nine colors, and I was curious to see how this expanded palette would transform the artwork.

Peter Deunov Low

The ShinsungHwa of Peter Deunov (2019)

At his spiritual core lies a luminous symbol that blazes across multiple dimensions. Energy spirals around this central light while spiritual radiance flows outward, embracing all nearby beings. Unlike rigid traditional mandorla, this one takes flowing, organic forms.

Unveiling Client-Commissioned Shinsunghwa (Mid 2021) 1 featured

Unveiling Client-Commissioned Shinsunghwa (Mid 2021)

By the middle of 2021, I had completed a handful of works that stood out with a stronger presence than the rest. With the permission of the people who commissioned them, I’ve decided to share a few here. Each ShinsungHwa shown is pared down to its essential form—without the more difficult or shadowed aspects.

The Visualization of Émile Coué’s Spiritual Energy (2022)

Many of us have heard this line before, though we might not remember where. It comes from Émile Coué, the French pharmacist and psychologist who is often called the father of autosuggestion.

The Visualization of Siddhartha Gautama Buddha’s Spiritual Energy (2021)

Have you ever sat quietly before a ShinsungHwa portrait of Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha? Let your eyes rest there for a while—as if you were in a wordless conversation—and it becomes its own kind of meditation.

Injeong-Sangwan 1

The Visualization of Injeong-Sangwan, Korea’s Avalokiteshvara Icon (2021)

Last winter, after finishing a meditation at Geumsansa in Gimje, I wandered over to Injeong Dodeokwon, not far from the temple gate. A small sign guided me along the path, and before long I found myself standing in front of the old home of Injeong Sanggwan. The courtyard lay silent and empty in the cold. The door was unlocked, so I stepped inside—hesitant yet curious.

Selected Works

A glimpse into Shinsunwa — a selection of works to let you feel its atmosphere and symbolism.

Anandamayi Ma 190619
Anandamayi Ma

The striking feature of this piece is its magnificent 18-layered mandorla that radiates outward. I created this Shinsunwa while meditating on Anandamayi Ma’s photograph, and the experience felt like receiving darshan through pure energy. At her feet appears a symbol of the cosmic principle, with energy flowing through and connecting to her hands.

hafez 191111-2

When you first see Hafez’s Shinsunwa, there’s an immediate glow—overwhelming, yet captivating enough to catch you by surprise. The mandorla stretches across eleven distinct layers, dominating the composition with a mix of intensity and solidity. It’s a presence that naturally makes you stop and take notice.

When I was creating Saint Francis’s Shinsunwa, something unexpected happened. The ‘path to the spiritual core’ naturally flowed beyond the top edge of my paper, as if it needed more room to breathe. So I added another sheet above—the way you might grab an extra page when a letter grows longer than expected.
